Federal filings put fresh attention on the overlap between crypto money and regulation. Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss donated $10.018 million in Bitcoin to MAGA Inc., the super PAC aligned with President Donald Trump, on June 19, 2026, according to new FEC records.
The timing stands out because it came 23 days after the Commodity Futures Trading Commission joined Gemini in asking a court to undo parts of a 2025 judgment against the exchange. The filings show Cameron gave $5,006,604.47 and Tyler gave $5,011,860.44. Four June 19 entries tied to Gemini match the full amount and say the Bitcoin was sold through the exchange to unknown buyers, which FEC rules allow when a committee liquidates donated crypto.
The records do not show that the gifts influenced the CFTC or that any coordination took place. Still, the sequence is likely to draw attention as lawmakers consider a larger crypto market role for the agency.
The CFTC said it changed course after reviewing the case and concluding it would not have been brought under current enforcement standards. It cited credibility issues with a whistleblower account, gaps in the evidence, limits on Gemini's defense, and what it described as improper use of regulatory authority in settlement pressure. A $5 million penalty from the 2025 settlement has already been paid and would not be returned.
